Fergie claims ``foul play`` in Spurs`` signing of ex-Man U star Fryers from Standard Liege

London: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has called for a Premier League investigation into club`s former defender Ezekiel Fryers move to Tottenham Hotspurs from Belgium club Standard Liege.

Ferguson was hoping to sell Fryers to Spurs for six million pounds last summer, but the youth product has now joined them for around 500,000 pounds after seven game career with Standard Liege, the Daily Mirror reports. Ferguson has accused Spurs of conspiring Standard Liege to avoid paying United compensation for the 20-year-old. United and Spurs could not agree a compensation package for Fryers last summer, when the youngster was out of contract at Old Trafford. Under Premier League rules, clubs are entitled to compensation if they lose an out-of-contract player under the age of 23 whom they have developed. But foreign clubs are exempt from the rule, which paved the way for Standard to sign Fryers for nothing, as he was a free agent. Ferguson suggested there was an agreement between Spurs and the Belgians to help the London club avoid paying United, who valued Fryers at six million pounds anything for him. Fryers played just seven games for Standard before joining Spurs this week for a fee in the region of 500,000 pounds. Ferguson said he was disappointed with Spurs crook ways to sign their players, adding that the North London based club had manipulated rule book, and the signing of Fryers should be investigated. However, Spurs defended the deal they had agreed with Fryers, denying suggestion of any wrong doing in the club. ANI
