New Delhi: Following is the chronology of events in the case relating to killings of two dalits of a family at Mirchpur in Haryana last year in which a local court today held 15 of the 97 people guilty: April 21, 2010: A 70-year-old man and his 18-year-old physically-challenged daughter burnt alive allegedly by a mob of over 100 people of Jat community at Mirchpur village of Hisar district.
Over 150 dalit families flee the village and take shelter at a Temple in Delhi after their houses were torched.
August 2010: Haryana police arrests the accused after the Supreme Court pulls it up.
November 23, 2010: SC says it may transfer the case from Haryana to Chandigarh as victims and witnesses were harassed.
December 09, 2010: SC transfers the case to Delhi to ensure fair trial on the plea of families of victims. December 23, 2010: Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau starts hearing and asks Haryana government to appoint special public prosecutor to conduct the trial. January 09, 2011: Court orders transfer of the accused to Tihar from a Hisar jail. A total of 98 accused shifted. Out of 103, five are juveniles and one is out on bail.
January 15, 2011: Jats community, to which accused belong, protests the transfer of case, seeks fresh probe.
January 20, 2011: CBI asked to take over the probe.
February 01, 2011: Court orders deployment of CRPF at Mirchpur village to protect prosecution witnesses.
February 10, 2011: Court asks chief secretaries of Delhi and Haryana to ensure transportation and stay of witnesses here.
March 11, 2011: Court frames charges against 97 including Vinod K Kajal, SHO of Narnaund police station, for murder, rioting and other offences.
March 30, 2011: Court asks the Inspector General of Hisar to probe lapses in security measures for the witnesses.
April 25, 2011: SC orders magisterial probe into case.
May 24, 2011: One of the accused Jasbir escapes.
May 26, 2011: Haryana police asked to assist Delhi police in nabbing Jasbir.
June 23, 2011: Recording of evidence begins with the testimony of the son of deceased Tara Chand.
August 2, 2011: Court reserves its judgement.
September 17, 2011: Court defers pronouncement of verdict to September 24, asks SP of Hisar to act against persons giving provocative speeches at Mirchpur.
September 24, 2011: Court convicts 15 for their varying rolesin the offence and acquits 82 persons. It fixes September 29 for hearing arguments on quantum of sentence.
