Lucknow: Expelled BSP leader Babu Singh Khushwaha has moved the Allahabad high court, seeking enhanced security for him.
Admitting the writ petition of the former minister on Friday, the Lucknow bench comprising justices Devi Prasad Singh and S C Chaurasiya granted three days time to the Uttar Pradesh government to file its reply.
The Mayawati government had reduced the security given to Khushwaha as Family Welfare Minister after he resigned from the post following multi-crore National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam which led to the murder of three medical officers. The court has fixed December 21 as the next date of hearing in the case. The court in its order said, "Keeping in view the allegations on record, we admit the writ petition and grant three days time, as prayed, to J N Mathur, additional advocate general Uttar Pradesh, to file counter affidavit." Kushwaha, a former key aide of Mayawati, was expelled from the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party in November after corruption charges were levelled against him. PTI
