The mass shooting at a public Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach in Sydney on Sunday resulted in the deaths of 15 victims and one of the two attackers.

Australia Beach Shooting: In a statement on Tuesday, the Telangana Police said that Sajid Akram is originally from Hyderabad, India. As per information available from his relatives in India, he had limited contact with his family in Hyderabad. 

Sixteen people died and 40 were hospitalised after a targeted mass shooting at Bondi Beach during Hanukkah, prompting condemnation as an antisemitic terror attack by Australian authorities.

Bondi Beach Shooting: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited the Bondi Beach shooting site. He had earlier termed the attack a "dark moment’ for Australia and said police and security agencies were thoroughly checking the motive behind the attack.

A horrific shooting took place at Bondi Beach in Sydney on Sunday, claiming the lives of 12 people, including the gunman, during celebrations marking the start of Hanukkah.”

The development comes after two gunmen opened fire during a public gathering marking the Jewish festival of Hanukkah at Bondi Beach on Sunday afternoon. Police formally declared the incident a terrorist attack.

Prime Minister Modi on Sunday extended condolences to the families of the victims and said that India stands in solidarity with Australia.

According to media reports, the incident unfolded during a Jewish holiday gathering at the beach, with a Hanukkah event underway when gunshots rang out, injuring several community members, including the media director of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry.
