Gayatri Prajapati missing; UP Police on lookout for rape accused minister

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday night failed to get hold of Gayatri Prajapati, the controversial minister accused of rape, when it searched two of his official residences in Gautam Palli and Vidhyak Niwas on Park Road at Hazaratganj in Lucknow on the orders of the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court had on February 17 directed the Uttar Pradesh Police to register a FIR against the minister in the Akhilesh Yadav government for allegedly raping and blackmailing a woman.

"A police team had gone to his official residence here. It's part of the investigation. The minister was not found there. We have sent teams to Amethi also," NDTV has quoted a senior police officer as saying on Tuesday.

Prajapati was last seen in Amethi, where he is contesting on the Samajwadi Party ticket in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.

A middle-aged woman has alleged that Gayatri Prasad Prajapati had raped her when she met him three years ago. She has alleged that she was raped when she fell unconscious after taking tea laced with a sedative.

Prajapati took some obscene photos of the victim and then threatened to make them public and continued to rape her for the past two years.
