MATHURA: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Meera Agarwal won in ward number 56 in Mathura on Friday through a lucky draw. The candidates of both - the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress - had got 874 votes in the ward forcing the decision to be taken through a lucky draw.

Counting for the Uttar Pradesh local body polls began on Friday in all the districts of the state amid tight security.

The BJP is leading in 13 out of 16 seats while the Bahujan Samaj Party is leading in 3 seats. 

The polls are being held eight months after the BJP's landslide victory in the UP Assembly polls. In 2012, BJP had a mayor in 12 municipal corporations.

The counting is being held for 16 nagar nigam, 198 nagar palika parishad and 438 nagar panchayats. The results are likely to be declared by the afternoon.
