'Sir 0 check kar lijiye' is what the fuel refilling machine operator at the petrol pump says just before refueling the vehicle. We've all likely heard it during a visit to petrol pumps.
However, simply checking for zero does not guarantee that you'll receive the correct amount of fuel for the price paid.
Several petrol pumps have previously been accused of scamming customers by using the ‘jump trick,’ which is explained below.
The jump trick is a common method used at some petrol pumps to cheat customers by dispensing less fuel than what they pay for.
When refueling begins, the fuel meter jumps quickly from 0 to 10, 20, or even higher, instead of increasing gradually as it normally should.
Petrol pumps may adjust their machines to show inflated readings, making it seem like more fuel is being pumped than is actually being dispensed.
Under normal conditions, the meter jump should only be under Rs 4-5. If you see a big jump, like Rs 10 or 20 or even more, it’s likely a sign of foul play and don’t hesitate to question it.
