Toss happened twice

The toss in WC 2011 final took place twice as the first time, match referee Jeff Crowe could not listen to the call from SL captain Kumar Sangakkara.

Dhoni's match-winning ball was lost

Dhoni smashed the ball into the stands to win World Cup for India at Wankhede but the ball was eventually lost and despite attempts to locate it, it was not found for many years.

Gavaskar helped locate the ball

The ball was later found thanks to help from Sunil Gavasakar. It fell at seat number 210 in L Block of MCA Pavilion. Gavaskar, in 2020, wrote to Mumbai Cricket Association that his friend's friend was sitting on that seat on the final night and asked them to track the man.

Gambhir was not padded up when Sehwag fell

In the final after Sehwag was declared out, he saved Gambhir's wicket too by taking a referral as the left-handed batter was not fully padded up and had the DRS not taken, Gambhir could have timed out himself.

Piyush Chawla slept with WC jersey

Chawla's jersey got totally wet after with champagne celebrations but he did not take it off the whole night and went to sleep wearing it in the morning.
