10 Minute Beginner Yoga Stretches For Neck And Shoulder Tension

1. Neck Rolls (2 minutes)

Sit or stand up straight with your shoulders relaxed. Inhale, then exhale, and gently drop your right ear towards your right shoulder. Slowly roll your head forward and bring your left ear toward your left shoulder. Continue this for one minutes each in both directions.

2. Shoulder Shrugs (1 minute)

Inhale, lift your shoulders up toward your ears. Exhale, roll your shoulders back and down. Repeat this motion for one minute.

3. Neck Stretch (1 minute)

Sit or stand with a straight back. Gently tilt your head to the right, bringing your right ear closer to your right shoulder. Place your right hand on top of your head, applying gentle pressure to increase the stretch. Hold for 30 seconds, then switch to the left side.

4. Eagle Arms (1 minute)

Stretch your arms out in front of you. Cross your right arm over your left arm, then bend your elbows. Bring your palms together if possible, or hold onto your shoulders. Lift your elbows up to shoulder height and relax your shoulders down. Hold for 30 seconds, then switch the arm position (left over right).

5. Thread the Needle (2 minutes)

Begin on all fours in a tabletop position. Inhale and reach your right arm up towards the ceiling. Exhale, thread your right arm under your left arm and rest your right shoulder and ear on the mat. Hold for 30 seconds, then repeat on the other side.

6. Child's Pose (2 minutes)

From your tabletop position, sit back on your heels. Extend your arms forward and rest your forehead on the ground. Relax in this position, taking deep breaths, for about 2 minutes.

7. Savasana (1 minute)

Lie on your back with your arms at your sides, palms facing up. Close your eyes and take a moment to relax completely. Focus on your breath and let go of any remaining tension.
