In a first for any European country, the Spanish Government approves law on menstrual leave.
The law grants women to take 3-5 days off under paid medical leave, if they are suffering from painful periods.
Menstrual cramps occur when the uterus contracts to shed its lining. This process causes pain in the stomach, lower back, groin or upper thighs. According to the Spanish Gynaecology and Obstetrics Society about a third of women suffer from severe menstrual pain.
Handful of companies in India like Swiggy, Zomato, Byju's allow period leaves, but it is not a law in the country yet.
Apart from Spain, menstrual leaves are offered in a handful of countries including Japan, Indonesia and Zambia.
As per reports, some women also experience Nausea, loose stools, headache and dizziness, and can hamper daily activities.
Drink more water as it reduces bloating. Herbal teas relieve inflammation. Apply heat or use a hot-water bottle during cramps.
