Estimated Cost

The building was estimated to cost Rs 862 crore but was finally completed for Rs 1,250 crore and has an area of 64,500 square metres.

Seating Capacity

In new Parliament, 888 members can sit in the Lok Sabha while 384 members in the Rajya Sabha. The joint session of both Houses will be held in the Lok Sabha Chamber.

National Emblem

A National Emblem made of bronze with a total weight of 9500 Kg and is 6.5 m in height has been cast at the top of the Central Foyer of New Parliament Building. It's supported by a structure of steel weighing around 6500 Kg.

Ashoka Emblem

The material involved in constructing Ashoka Emblem was sourced from Aurangabad, Maharashtra and Jaipur, Rajasthan while Ashok Chakra came from Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

Teak Wood-Sand Stone

The Teak wood used in new Parliament was sourced from Nagpur, Maharashtra while sandstone (red and white) was procured from Sarmathura, Rajasthan.

Carpets

The carpets used inside the new building were procured from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh. The bamboo wood flooring came from Agartala, Tripura. From Rajnagar, Rajasthan and Noida, UP Stone Jali Works were obtained.

Furniture, Marble

Some of the furniture acquired was procured from Mumbai. From Lakha, Jaisalmer Lakha Red granite was obtained. Ambaji White marble was procured from Ambaji, Rajasthan. Kesharia Green Stone was procured from Udaipur.

Stone Carving

The stone carving work was obtained from Abu Road and Udaipur, and the stone aggregate was from Kotputali, Rajasthan. The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha false ceiling steel structures came from UT of Daman and Diu.

M-Sand, Fly Ash Bricks

The M-Sand was procured from Chakari Dadri, Haryana, and Fly Ash Bricks from NCR Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and the Brass work and Pre-cast Trenches were got from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Foundation Stone-Inauguration

The new Parliament's foundation stone was laid by PM Narendra Modi on December 10, 2020. Inauguration of the building took place on May 28, 2023.
