78th UN General Assembly: "Peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability"
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is a yearly gathering of all 193 member states of the United Nations.
Each UNGA session has a distinct agenda covering a variety of global problems, from security and development to climate change and human rights.
Dennis Francis, Trinidad and Tobago's permanent representative to the UN, was chosen to preside over this year’s session.
“Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all”
Decisions and resolutions adopted by the UNGA can have a significant impact on international affairs, including humanitarian operations, peacekeeping deployments, economic development, and the promotion of human rights.
UNGA sessions emphasize inclusivity, with countries of all sizes and regions participating equally. It's a chance for both powerful and smaller nations to make their voices heard.
