Summer has already made its presence felt after India recorded the hottest February in last 122 years.
The IMD has warned most parts of India could experience "extreme weather conditions" in April and May.
Union Health Ministry has issued an advisory and has listed the dos and don'ts for protection against heat waves.
People should consume fresh fruits such as watermelon, cucumber, lemon, and orange to remain safe.
One should avoid high-protein food and cooking during the peak summer hours.
You should avoid alcohol, tea, coffee, and carbonated soft drinks as they dehydrate the body.
You should have ORS, homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water), lemon water, and buttermilk. They help to rehydrate the body.
You should wear thin, loose, cotton garments preferably light-coloured ones. Use a damp cloth on your head, neck, face, and limbs if you work outside.
One should also not leave their children or pets in parked vehicles in heat waves.
