Authority Of The House

The speaker of the house holds the administrative and discretionary powers. He conducts business in Lok Sabha by ensuring discipline and decorum among others.

Guarding The Rights

Lok Sabha Speaker guards the rights and privileges of Lok Sabha members. He also ensures the smooth proceeding of the house.

Resolves Deadlock

In case of a deadlock during the voting procedure, the speaker has the right to caste a vote to resolve the issue.

Deciding Agenda

The speaker decides the agenda of the meeting of the Members of Parliament

No Unruly Behavior

Speaker is allowed to punish MPs for unruly behaviour during the parliament session. He can disqualify a Member of Parliament for defection.

No Confidence Motion

The speaker permits various parliamentary procedures like motion of adjournment, the motion of no confidence, the motion of censure and others.

Joint Sitting

The speaker presides over the joint sitting of the two houses of parliament.
