Indian roads are often seen with various potholes during monsoon but you know why this happens? (Image: Unsplash)

As soon as the rainy season arrives the condition of the roads are horrible and vehicles can barely move. (Image: Freepik)

Some people say there is corruption while making it. However, here is the reason why it happens every time in India during monsoon season. (Image: Unsplash)

Let's take an example of a ‘Sandwich’ to clearly understand the reason behind it. (Image: Unsplash)

Just like a sandwich, roads are made up of three layers- the bread at the bottom is the base, the middle crunchy potato bun is the binder layer and the top is the surface layer. (Image: Unsplash)

The top most layer of the road is spongy so when a heavy vehicle goes over, it deforms a little bit but the binder layer in role provides strength to the top layer to regain its shape. (Image: Instagram)

During rain, the roads are covered with water for a long time due to which the binder layer gets wet. (Image: Unsplash)

And when this happens, both the layers are deformed and it cannot regain its original shape leading to potholes. (Image: Instagram)

This problem can be solved with the installation of a better drainage system. (Image: Unsplash)
