1. Kashi Vishwanath temple

It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas that are Shivalingas that are the physical symbols of Lord Shiva. The spires and domes of the shrine are completely covered in gold.

2. Dashashwamedh Ghat

This particular ghat is believed to be the oldest one in the city, and is hence considered special. Ganga Aarti is an important ritual held on a grand scale every morning and evening on the banks of the holy Ganges.

3. Manikarnika Ghat

People who have died often get cremated here, in the belief that they attain moksha.

4. Assi Ghat

Assi Ghat is believed to be the place where the legendary poet Tulsidas passed away. When here, you can go on a leisurely boat ride on the river or even a hot air balloon excursion!

5. Gyan Vapi Well

The name of this well means the well of wisdom, which is exactly what is believed about the water of this well. It is said to possess wisdom in its water and people who drink from it are benefited by it.

6. Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple

Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple is situated by the River Assi and was built in the 1900s by the freedom fighter Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya.

7. Vishwanath Gali

Vishwanath Gali is famous for street shopping in Varanasi. A variety of items are sold in the bustling gali at affordable rates.

8. Tulsi Manasa Temple

Constructed in 1964, this temple is dedicated to Lord Rama and is named after the saint poet Tulsi Das.

9. Durga Temple

Located near the Durga Ghat on the bank of the River Ganga, Durga Temple was built in the 18th century. It houses an imposing idol of Goddess Durga and is one of the main temples in Varanasi.

10. Bharat Mata Mandir

Bharat Mata Mandir is a unique shrine dedicated to our country, Mother India. The temple does not have any deity, but a relief map of the country carved in marble.
