Today Dr Priyanka Reddy, Founder and Chief Dermatologist at DNA Skin Clinic shares 10 easy tips and tricks to get those glossy lips. Remember to be consistent with your lip care routine, especially during extreme weather conditions, and choose products that suit your specific needs and preferences.
Regularly exfoliate your lips to remove dead skin cells and keep them smooth. Besides using a DIY sugar and honey scrub, you can also try commercially available lip scrubs or gentle exfoliating lip brushes.
Keep your lips moisturized by using a lip balm throughout the day. Look for products that contain hydrating ingredients such as shea butter, cocoa butter, beeswax, or almond oil. Apply a generous amount before bed to provide overnight hydration.
Protect your lips from the harmful effects of the sun by using a lip balm with SPF. Sun exposure can cause dryness, chapping, and even sunburn on the delicate skin of your lips. Opt for lip balms with at least SPF 15 or higher.
Stay hydrated by drinking an adequate amount of water throughout the day. Keeping your body hydrated helps maintain the moisture levels in your lips.
Although it may be tempting, try to avoid licking your lips as saliva can actually dry them out further. Instead, reach for your lip balm whenever you feel the need to moisturize.
During cold or windy weather, protect your lips by covering them with a scarf or using a lip balm that provides a protective barrier. Extreme weather conditions can lead to dry and chapped lips.
Once or twice a week, apply a nourishing lip mask before going to bed. This intensive treatment helps replenish moisture and repair your lips while you sleep and can help with easy exfoliation.
Be mindful of lip products that contain potential irritants such as fragrances, menthol, or camphor if you have sensitive lips. Opt for fragrance-free and hypoallergenic options.
When selecting lipsticks, glosses, or stains, opt for formulas that are hydrating and gentle on the lips. Look for products that contain nourishing ingredients like jojoba oil, vitamin E, glycerin or hyaluronic acid.
Avoid smoking that can dry the lips out and cause pigmentation.
