7 Animals That Reproduce Asexually

Asexual Reproduction

Sounds bizarre but there are animals that produce offsprings from a single parent without the fusion of gametes. Here are animals that are known to reproduce asexually:

Komodo Dragon

Komodo dragons, native to Indonesia, have been known to reproduce through a process called parthenogenesis. This involves the development of embryos from unfertilized eggs.

Whiptail Lizards

Whiptail lizards, found in the Americas, predominantly reproduce through parthenogenesis. They are all-female species and produce offspring genetically identical to themselves.

Aphids

Aphids are small insects that reproduce asexually through a process called parthenogenesis. Females can give birth to live offspring without mating with a male.

Water Fleas (Daphnia)

Daphnia, or water fleas, can reproduce both sexually and asexually. Under favorable conditions, they reproduce rapidly through parthenogenesis, producing genetically identical offspring.

Hydra

Hydra, freshwater organisms belonging to the phylum Cnidaria, reproduce asexually through budding. They can regenerate and form new individuals from a single organism.

Starfish (Some species)

Certain species of starfish can reproduce asexually through a process called fragmentation. If a starfish is cut into pieces, each piece can regenerate and grow into a new individual.

Flatworms (Planarians)

Planarians are flatworms that are capable of reproducing asexually through regeneration. When a planarian is cut into pieces, each piece can regenerate into a complete organism.
