The Indian flag is based on the swaraj flag. Which was first raised by Mahatma Gandhi in 1921.
In 1931 a new flag was designed by the Pingali Venkayya. Where three colours were used in Saffron, White and Green depicting strength, purity and earth. In the middle there was charkha.
Afterwards the charkha from the flag was removed and a wheel with 24 spokes were added to the Indian flag.
The Indian Flag material which is to be used in the making is Khadi. Flag can only be made up of Khadi.
The Indian flag is hoisted every morning at government offices, schools and other institutions. When the sun sets, the flag is lowered down.
The flag's proportions are specified in the Flag Code of India, with the ratio of the width to the length being 2:3.
The Ashok chakra on the Indian flag represents progress. It is made with a deep navy blue colour.
