The boom made many residents unrested and caused some people to panic and fear the end of the world.
Some people thought the boom was the sound of a massive explosion while others believed it was the sound of an Indian Air Force jet breaking the sound barrier.
Many thought that the boom was a warning sound of the end of the human race, which was panicking for lakhs of people.
A few people thought a nearby army ammunition depot had exploded but the defence establishment denied any involvement or explosion.
Similar unexplained booms were reported in other parts of the world that month. Some of the booms heard were accompanied by a mysterious green light.
The cause of the booms remains a mystery to this day and no one could have understood what was the sound of.
