Collect toor dal, chana dal, onions, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, garam masala, cumin powder, turmeric, vegetable oil, and water.
Soak the lentil for 30 minutes and then boil in water adding salt and turmeric powder.
Heat oil in a pan and saute chopped onions and ginger until golden brown.
Add garam masala, red chili powder, and coriander powder, and saute for a minute. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they are soft and properly cooked.
Take a cooker and mix the boiled dal with tadka.
Add salt to the dal and stir it for 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld properly.
Serve the delicious Punjabi dal tadka with chapati and rice. Garnish with fresh cilantro.
