Real silk has a unique shimmer, not a glossy shine that reflects light and changes color according to angle. If the fabric has a dull or overly shiny appearance, it's probably not pure silk.
Pure silk will burn slowly with a smell similar to burning hair. The ash will be fine and crumble easily while the synthetic fabrics will melt and have a chemical smell.
