Before going over the procedures for filing an ITR online, it is crucial for a taxpayer to keep PAN, Forms 26AS and AIS, Bank Statements, and Form 16 ready.
Log in to the official income tax e-filing website by entering your PAN and password.
Click on the e-file tab. Select File Income Tax Return under Income Tax Returns.
Choose 'Assessment Year' as 'AY 2023-24' and 'Online' as the mode of filing.
Choose the filing status you prefer: Individual, HUF, or Others. Select 'Individual' and 'Continue'.
Select ITR type now. Before filing returns, the taxpayer must first determine which ITR form they need to complete. Seven different ITR forms are provided in total.
You will be asked to give a reason for filing your taxes in the next step. Choose the solution that best fits your circumstances.
Give details about your bank account. Make sure these details have been pre-validated if you have already submitted them. Verify the facts and the summary of your returns.
Verifying your return is just as important as actually filing it. You can choose to e-verify your return using Aadhaar OTP, electronic verification code (EVC), Net Banking, or by mailing a physical copy of ITR-V to CPC, Bengaluru.
