The most famous temple here is of Hindu goddess Kanya Kumari, an incarnation of goddess Parvati. The temple is known as 3000-year-old Kumari Amman Temple (also known as Arulmigu Bhagavathy Amman Temple)
The Vivekananda Rock Memorial is located on a rock in the sea, about 500 metres from the mainland. It is one of the most visited tourism attractions in India.
The local market is excitingly full of objects made from shells, wooden toys, metalwork, and lovely woven handloom saris. One Of them is Sannathi Street near the Kumari Amman Temple.
You will find regular ferries from the Vivekananda Rock Memorial to the towering 133 foot tall statue of the famous ancient Tamil poet and philosopher, Thiruvalluvar.
Here on the beach, you may find three different coloured sands, yellow, black and even red sand., and the most interesting part is that they do not even mix with each other.
Located on the shore, a memorial here is dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, whose ashes were kept here before being scattered into the sea on February 12, 1948.
Just an hour northwest of Kanyakumari is located the former capital city of the erstwhile Hindu kingdom of Travancore, where you can see the majestic Padmanabhapuram Palace.
