In 1991 Khaleda became the first woman Prime Minister of Bangladesh and second female muslim PM in the world after Benazir Bhutto.
Khaleda again served as the PM from 2001 to 2006 and during 2007 elections were postponed due to political violence.
In 2018 Khaleda was sentenced to 17 years in prison for a graft case.
