According to the Global Peace Index 2023, Iceland remains the most peaceful country in the world, a position it has held since 2008.
Denmark is in the second position in the Global Peace Index 2023.
Ireland is ranked third, while New Zealand is fourth on the list.
While Austria is the fifth most peaceful country in the world, Singapore is the sixth.
Portugal is seventh on the list, followed by Slovenia, Japan and Switzerland.
India is ranked as the 126th most peaceful nation in the 2023 GPI. It saw an improvement in overall peacefulness over the past year, owing to improvements in violent crime, neighbouring countries relations and political instability.
Afghanistan is the least peaceful country in the world for the eighth consecutive year, followed by Syria, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The average level of country peacefulness deteriorated in 2023. This is the ninth consecutive year that global peacefulness has deteriorated.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its consequences were the main drivers of the deterioration in peacefulness globally.
