Cooch Behar: 64 girl students injured in Haldibari school stampede

At least 64 students of Haldibari Girls High school in Cooch Behar’s Haldibari were injured in a stampede following an explosion in a nearby police station on Monday. Over 22 students have been admitted to nearby hospital.

West Bengal: At least 64 students of Haldibari Girls High school in Cooch Behar’s Haldibari were injured in a stampede following an explosion in a nearby police station on Monday. Over 22 students have been admitted to nearby hospital.

According to reports, a hand grenade exploded in Haldibari police state while being defused. 

At the time, students were appearing for internal exams, some appearing for Board prelim-exams. When the grenade exploded, the students mistook it for an earthquake, rushed out of the school creating a stampede situation.

The school authorities said that prior warning by the police could have averted the entire episode.

The authorities, however, claimed that all precautions were taken while defusing the grenade/
