New Delhi: Fans are ecstatic to see journalist Jigna Vora, whose true story served as the inspiration for the much-discussed Netflix series 'Scoop', emerging as one of the strong contestants of Bigg Boss 17. Vora's case created a sensation in 2011 when she was arrested for allegedly conspiring with gangster Chhota Rajan in the killing of veteran crime reporter Jyotirmoy Dey.

On June 11, 2011, J Dey was murdered by unidentified assailants in Hiranandani, Powai, while onlookers witnessed the incident. The murderers were eventually identified as being part of a seven-person group connected to the underworld gangster Chhota Rajan. After conducting an initial investigation, the Mumbai police charged Rajan and Vora. The case was handed off to the CBI in 2016.  

 

Jigna Vora Controversy

Jigna's name quickly circulated among the list of suspects, and her life took an unexpected turn. She was charged with arranging the journalist's murder alongside gangster Chhota Rajan. Vora received a seven-year sentence after the murder, whereas gangster Chota Rajan received a life sentence.  Jigna went from being a crime journalist to being accused of conspiring with Chhota Rajan in the 2011 murder of senior investigative crime reporter Jyotirmoy Dey.

Jigna Vora was arrested, and she spent nine months in prison. She was released on bail in 2012 from Byculla Jail in Mumbai. But she was only cleared of all the accusations after seven years in the 2018 special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act court due to lack of evidence. 

Later, she wrote a memoir titled 'Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison', in which she described her experiences there. The movie 'Scoop', which is based on her book, was directed by Hansal Mehta. The Netflix series' lead actor was Karishma Tanna, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, while Harman Baweja and Prosenjit Chatterjee played supporting roles.

Currently seen in Bigg Boss 17, Jigna as emerged as one of the strongest contestants of the seasons. She has also been tagged as the 'favourite' by Bigg Boss several times in the last two weeks.
