Narendra Modi evokes `Nirbhaya`, asks Delhi to vote for women`s security
With state assembly election knocking on Delhi`s doorsteps, Bharatiya Janata Party`s PM candidate Narendra Modi took the attack to the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

New Delhi: With the state assembly election knocking on Delhi’s doorsteps, Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi took the attack to the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress government and rookie rivals, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), in the capital on Sunday. Addressing a poll rally in south Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar, the Gujarat Chief Minister lambasted Dikshit for three terms of ‘misgovernance’ and picked on issues like water scarcity, price rise and unauthorised colonies to drive home his point.
Modi asked people not to forget the "rape capital" tag associated with the national capital when they vote.
"It (Delhi) has earned a bad name as the rape capital. When you vote, do not forget this. Remember Nirbhaya for a while," Modi said.
Nirbhaya was the name given by a section of the media to the young woman who was brutally gang-raped in the capital December last and later died. The incident led to nation-wide protests.
In a veiled attack on the Arvind Kejriwal led-AAP, he said, “A respected person like Anna ji fought against corruption. Nation looked up to him. But what happened? Upon seeing Anna’s popularity, some people developed political ambitions. Due to self ambitions, the movement was stabbed in back. Those who did this for self interests..jo Anna ke nahi hue woh aapke nahi ho sakte (those that could not be true to Anna Hazare cannot be trusted).”
Modi claimed that the voters were in a mood to vote the Congress party out of power. “The elections this time have become a jan andolan (mass revolution). People are voting to punish the Congress party.” “The aam aadmi is not just disappointed with the Congress party, but their actions have also angered the people at large,” said Modi.
He blamed the three-time Delhi CM for taking Delhiites for ‘granted’, and said, “Congress feels the people are in their pocket and they can do anything. They do not feel bad about corruption. They have accepted it as a part of their lives.”
Touching a raw nerve of Delhiites, Modi questioned whether the Congress had performed on its promise to provide cheap housing.
“Has anyone got a house in Delhi, as promised by the Congress,” he asked the crowd, and added, “The way you were cheated in regard to housing, same way they did in Gujarat. But the people of Gujarat rejected their false promises and elected the BJP once again.”
Questioning Congress government’s lack of vision and implementation, he said, “BRT failed here. It is a standing example of the Congress corruption and their lack of vision.”
