NEW DELHI: Asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will get full majority in Gujarat polls, Chhattisgarh Minister Brijmohan Agrawal on Thursday said that Congress president-elect Rahul Gandhi will need more time to upgrade himself to win elections in the country.
All exit poll results on Thursday predicted a sweeping victory for the BJP in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections. Poll results of VMR, C-voter, News X, India TV and CSDS have shown a clean sweep for the BJP.
Polling for the second and final phase of Gujarat elections ended on Thursday. Himachal had voted on November 9 and the counting of votes for both the states will take place on December 18.
Both BJP and the Congress had campaigned hard in the high-stakes elections with both sides fielding their top leaders for the campaigning.
The saffron party had drafted several top leaders including Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Uma Bharti, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Smriti Irani. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah and other top state and national level functionaries had also campaigned.
The Congress fielded former prime minister and senior party leader Manmohan Singh, among other high-profile party leaders including Rahul Gandhi, state chief Ahmed Patel, Ghulam Navi Azad, Sachin Pilot, Kamal Nath, Sam Pitroda, Kumari Selja and Alpesh Thakor. The ruling BJP is attempting to return to power for a fifth term while the Congress is seeking a comeback.
