Amaravati: TDP leader Nara Lokesh, the son of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, was among the seven candidates who were elected unopposed to the Legislative Council under the MLAs' quota on Friday.
Besides Lokesh and four other candidates of the TDP, two nominees of the Jaganmohan Reddy-led YSR Congress too were elected unopposed.
Lokesh, Dokka Manikya Varaprasad, Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthy, Pothula Sunita and Batchula Arjunudu (all TDP) and YSRC's Alla Srinivas alias Nani and Gangula Prabhakar Reddy were elected unopposed to fill the seven seats that will fall vacant on March 29 after retirement of sitting members at the end of their six-year term.
The Legislature Secretary (in charge) and Returning Officer K Satyanarayana Rao declared the seven nominees elected this afternoon after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended.
Gangula Indira, wife of Prabhakar Reddy who filed nomination as a dummy candidate, withdrew her papers two days ago, paving the way for unopposed election.
