Officials at the famous Subrahmanya Swamy temple in Mopidevi in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh were left stunned when they opened the offerings box or hundi on Saturday. When the officials opened the box to count their collections, they found an iPhone6 wrapped in a sealed packet in it.
Officials said they had no information about any such offering in advance. From the cover, to the warranty card, the phone was properly wrapped.
There have been instances in the past when people accidentally dropped the phones in the box. However, temple officials say this is the first time that a phone has been offered as a donation to the deity.
They are suspecting that the devotee might have opened a mobile shop or business and may have donated the first phone as a donation. Temple superintendent A Madhusudhan told The Indian Express that it is the first time they have received a phone in the donations. They are planning to write to the government seeking directions on how to deal with the gift.
They have no information so far on how to deal with the phone. One option is to put the phone for auction so that whatever collections are made are deposited to the temple account. They are also analysing if they should keep the phone at the reception desk to answer calls from devotees.
