KARACHI: A Pakistani woman gave birth to a baby girl on board a Multan-bound Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.
The cabin crew had rushed to the aid of the family as the woman went into labour mid-air on flight PK716, which was en-route from Madina to Multan.
She later gave birth to a healthy baby girl. And on request of her parents, the crew named her ‘Jannat’.
“She opened her eyes to the blue skies! PIA made a new friend today,” the airlines tweeted. “Our extremely competent and efficient crew delivered a healthy baby girl mid-flight,” it said.
The airline also tweeted the pictures of the crew holding the baby.
Miracles happen everyday and we had our little miracle today onboard our flight PK 716 from Madinah to Multan. A beautiful baby girl was born! We congratulate the proud parents on the new arrival and a big kudos to our cabin crew for their amazing emergency response. #PIA pic.twitter.com/RPo8wyFvvE

The identity of the woman was not immediately known.
In June this year, another woman had given birth to a baby boy mid-air after she went into premature labour on a Jet Airways flight from Dammam in Saudi Arabia to Kochi.
The flight had to be diverted to Mumbai for the emergency.
Thanks to the prompt actions of the cabin crew and a trained paramedic onboard, the baby was born healthy before the Boeing 737 landed in Mumbai.
