5 things Maruti Suzuki should have added to the new Dzire

Even though the all-new Dzire is well-equipped, we would have been delighted if Maruti Suzuki had added a few more features.

Maruti Suzuki unveiled the third-generation Dzire in India on April 24. The Dzire which continues to lead the segment in sales, has received a complete makeover with added features. We appreciate Maruti Suzuki’s efforts with the new version, but feel like they could have done a little more to justify the ‘segemnt-leader’ tag. Here are five things we think the largest carmaker in India should have added to the Dzire.

Re-tuned diesel engine, to keep up with the competition

Maruti Suzuki should have offered the 1.3-litre DDiS engine in the 90PS tune as seen in the Ertiga, Ciaz and S-Cross to keep up with the competition in the sub-compact sedan segment. The Ford Aspire, Honda Amaze and Volkswagen Ameo get diesel motors that put out a peak power of 100PS or more.

SHVS-Mild Hybrid System

We believe Maruti Suzuki could have had a slight edge in this segment if it had offered the SHVS-mild hybrid system which offers regenerative braking, an integrator starter generator which helps the engine to take off from idle using an electric motor and idle start/stop technology. All these combined would have helped boost the fuel efficiency and performance of the vehicle. Moreover, this would have resulted in a lower price tag in the national capital as cars equipped with mild-hybrid technologies attract less excise duty in New Delhi.

UV- Cut windows to keep the heat out

Like seen in the Baleno, Maruti Suzuki could have offered the UV-cut glasses that keeps UV rays out of the cabin thereby keeping the cabin cool and aiding the AC’s efficiency. This, in turn, would have had a positive impact on the overall fuel efficiency.

Better music system for enhanced listening experience

Maruti Suzuki offers the Dzire with a basic 4-speaker system and is quite mediocre when compared to the ones found on rivals like the Tata Tigor, which gets a Harman-developed 8-speaker unit. We would have appreciated the 'Hertz' system that the Indo-Japanese car maker used to offer with the 'Allure' special edition variant of the outgoing Dzire.

More airbags on the top-end variants

Though we applaud Maruti Suzuki for offering basic safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, seatbelts with pretensioners and ISOFIX seat mounts as standard with the Dzire, we would have welcomed more airbags, at least on the top-end variants. The Ford Aspire gets six airbags -driver, front passenger, side and curtain airbags.
