New Delhi: All new dealers must be fitted with toll tags or RFID tags from August before they are being sent out from the showroom, as per a newspaper report.
A Times of India report said that automobile dealers will have to “install FasTags from August”.
“Earlier there was a proposal to roll out the move from October but the Prime Minister's office wanted it to be advanced,” the TOI added.
Last year, the government had asked automobile manufacturers to provide a digital identity tag in all new vehicles, including cars, to enable electronic payment at all toll plazas and ensure seamless movement at check posts.
RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) tag will ensure that the electronic toll collection system will ensure that when vehicle pass the toll tax booths, they can pass without stopping at the toll booths. The toll amount is deducted from the RFID card.
Those tags could be recharged for future use.
