The Mahindra XUV500’s new rival is all set to go on sale in January next year and while the prices have yet to be announced, Tata showrooms are now accepting bookings for the Hexa.
Dealers are quoting a booking amount of Rs 11,000, though some dealers are reportedly expecting Rs 20,000-25,000.
At launch, the Hexa will be available in 6 variants – XE, XM, XMA, XT, XTA and XT 4x4. While prices are likely to start at around Rs 12 lakh, the top-end variant could set you back by around Rs 17-18 lakh.
While the Hexa is based on its predecessor, the Aria, it sports an entirely new design and gets new features too. Available as a 6- or 7-seater, the Hexa’s feature list includes a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment interface, a 10-speaker sound system by JBL, 6 airbags, faux leather upholstery and automatic climate control.
It will be available with only one engine i.e. the same 2.2-litre ‘Varicor400’ turbodiesel engine used in the range-topping variant of the Safari Storme, which makes 156PS of power and 400Nm of torque. The base variant employs the same engine in a lower state of tune (150PS/320Nm). The motor will, however, come paired with a variety of transmission options.
While the base XE gets a 5-speed manual gearbox, a 6-speed manual gearbox comes as standard with the XM and XT grades. What’s more is that the top-end XT can be had with 4x4 as well, while buyers can also opt for a 6-speed automatic transmission, offered with the XMA and XTA variants. The XTA variant may be offered with 4x4 at a later stage.
