Lalu Yadav received land worth crores from party workers, domestic help: BJP's Sushil Modi

Patna: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushil Kumar Modi has recently alleged that Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav and his family members of receiving several acres of land as 'gift' from outsiders, including party leaders and even his domestic help.

Modi, who has repeatedly been attacking Lalu and his family for purportedly owning undeclared properties worth over Rs. 1,000 crores, alleged that the land dealings needed to be probed by Income Tax authorities as the documents in question were in the public domain.

When asked to respond, Lalu asserted that "BJP leaders do not receive gifts, so they talk like this on fire".

Here, we take a look at some of the 'grand gifts' received by Lalu and his family as per Sushil Modi:

Lalu Yadav's wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi and his daughter Hema Yadav were gifted a land worth Rs 1 crore by none other than their domestic helper Lallan Chowdhary in 2014. Chaudhary, a resident of Siwan district of Bihar and employed as a domestic helper at Lalu Yadav's residence servant for the past two decades, first donated at least 2.5 dissol of land to Rabri Devi in January 2014. He has a BPL card made in his name.

On March 23, 1992, then state minister Brij Bihari Prasad's wife Rama Devi gifted two plots - one measuring 9 acres 24 decimal and the other 3 acres 88 decimal - in the Kudhni area of Muzaffarpur district to Tej Pratap as a reward for "taking care" of her. Now, according to Sushil Modi, Tej Pratap Yadav's was just three-year-old at the time of donation of the land.

According to Sushil Modi, he did not know about the current status of the property, which was valued at Rs. 20,000 when it was allegedly gifted to Tej Pratap.

Another revelation made by the BJP leader states that the land in Patna, on which a huge mall is being constructed, is in the name of Lalu's two sons. Party MP Premchand Gupta registered the land in the name of Yadav's minister sons.

The land was earlier registered in the name of Prem Gupta's company, who later named it Laloo Yadav's wife Rabri Devi and her two sons.

Former RJD leader Raghunath Jha and another party leader Kanti Singh gifted their lands to the RJD chief in exchange of union ministerial berths. According to allegations of Sushil Modi, about 41,400 sq ft land in Danapur in Patna district was given on lease in the name of Rabri Devi for 99 years, rent of which was fixed at Rs. 1250 monthly.
