Muzaffarpur shelter home accused Brajesh Thakur not subjected to any torture in jail: Medical board informs Supreme Court

NEW DELHI: Prime accused in Muzaffarpur shelter home sexual abuse case Brajesh Thakur was not subjected to any physical or mental torture, Supreme Court-appointed medical board informed the top court on Monday.

The SC also dismissed Thakur's plea to stay the demolition of the shelter home building where minor girls were sexually molested. 

Last week, Thakur`s children had approached the SC alleging that their father was being tortured physically and mentally in Patiala Jail by the police purportedly for money.

Following this, the three-judge bench comprising of Justices Madan B Lokur, Deepak Gupta and Hemant Gupta ordered an immediate medical examination of Thakur and appointed the medical board.

Over 40 minor girls were allegedly sexually assaulted over a period of time in the shelter home which was run by Thakur`s state-funded non-governmental organisation (NGO). The incident came into light earlier this year, after Mumbai-based Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) uncovered the scandal in a report. Apart from Thakur, 11 employees were arrested. Following a massive massive public furor over the incident, the case was handed over to the CBI.
