A gangster was gunned down in an encounter with police at Malad in north-west Mumbai late Tuesday night, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap for Prakash alias Pakudi Shashikant (35) near Pipripada road.
On spotting the gangster, police ordered him to surrender. Prakash, however, whipped out a revolver and fired at the police, who retaliated injuring the gangster. Prakash was rushed to Bhagvati hospital, where he was declared dead before admission, police said. Prakash had nearly 17 cases registered against him, police added. Bureau Report
