The film is a biopic based on the life of Mahavir Singh Phogat who taught wrestling to daughters Geeta and Babita despite receiving flak from the peers. While Geeta became India's first female wrestler to win gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in 55 kg. Her sister Babita Kumari won the silver medal in 51 kg.
The film features Aamir in the lead, besides Sakshi Tanwar, debutantes Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar playing pivotal parts. In China 'Dangal' was released as 'Shuai Jiao Baba', which means 'Let's Wrestle, Dad'.
'Dangal' has broken Aamir's 'PK' record of minting Rs 100 crore in China. It made the money in 16 days becoming the first ever Bollywood film to mint such a huge moolah there. 'PK' released in 2015.
