Mumbai: Kangana Ranaut starrer Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi release has been deferred, latest buzz suggests. The film based on brave warrior Queen of Jhansi Rani Lakshmibai was initially slated to hit theatres on April 27, 2018 but will now release in June or July.
According to a report in a leading daily, a source said, “Kangana is in Himachal Pradesh these days, spending some quality time with her family. She will resume work soon, but the VFX on the film is going to take a bit longer. So now the film will release only in June, or maybe even July.”
The period film directed by Krish also stars Atul Kulkarni (as Ramchandra Pandurang Tope also known as Tatya Tope) and Sonu Sood (as Sadashiv). The film will also mark the Bollywood debut of TV actress Ankita Lokhande (who will play Jhalkaribai a brave warrior and advisor to Rani Lakshmibai) and model Nihar Pandya(as Maratha Peshwa Bajirao II).
The film is being jointly produced by Zee Studious, Kamal Jain and Nishant Pitti.
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi has been in news since its inception. Images of the actress as Rani Lakshmibai had surfaced online and her look in the film was leaked. The cast and crew was also seen shooting in Rajasthan for the film and Kangana looked gorgeous in the royal attire.
The three time National Film Award winning actress needs a big hit to claim her position at the Box Office. Her last two releases – Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon and Hansal Mehta’s Simran proved disastrous at the Box Office. However, her performances in the films were appreciated by the critics.
