New Delhi: On this day last year, one of the highly anticipated movies 'Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya' starring Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt had hit theatres.

The movie went on to become one of the highest grossers of the year and went on to collect over Rs 200 crore at the Box Office.

On Saturday, as the movie completes one year of its release, Varun took to Twitter to talk about the film. "1 YEAR OF BKD. Such a special movie for me got to work with such talented people and had so much fun doing it Thank you @ShashankKhaitan @aliaa08 @karanjohar and everyone else involved," he tweeted.

The film received mixed to positive reviews from critics. However, more than the storyline, it was Varun and Alia's crackling chemistry works in the film that did wonders for this desi love story.

The film was directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Karan Johar for Dharma Productions. The music for the film was composed by Amaal Mallik, Tanishk Bagchi, Akhil Sachdeva and Bappi Lahiri while the lyrics were penned down by Kumaar, Shabbir Ahmed, Akhil Sachdeva and Badshah and Indeevar.

At the 63rd Filmfare Awards, the film received eight nominations, including Best Film, Best Director for Khaitan, Best Actor for Varun and Best Actress for Alia Bhatt.

Here, we bring to you some of the interesting facts about the movie:

Varun's character Badri is a big fan of cricketer Virat Kohli in the film. In fact, for his role, Varun even got the same hair style as Kohli. Later, he even shared a photo of him with the cricketer while getting the haircut done.

Both Alia and Varun did special workshops with directer Shashank to get the accent and the speech right for their characters in the movie.

Interestingly, during his college days, Varun was nicknamed 'Badri' by one of his close friends.

For one of the emotional scenes in the film, Varun had to get drunk. However, he ended up getting so high that Alia had to come to his rescue and hold him on his mark as he was unable to do it himself.

The song 'Tamma Tamma', which was originally composed by Bappi Lahiri from the 1990-released 'Thanedaar' was recreated for this film and it went on to become the favourite chartbuster for several months.
