New Delhi: Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's latest outing 'Padmaavat' has hit the right chord and is unstoppable at the Box Office. So far, the film has pocketed Rs 265 crores and is inching closer towards Rs 300 crore mark in India.

'Padmaavat' earned Rs 166.50 crores just within a week of its release and has continued to rake in moolah since then. In the second week, the film went on to collect Rs 129 crores. 


Starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, 'Padmaavat' was released amid fierce protests from several groups including the Rajput Karni Sena and other fringe outfits as they demanded a ban on the release of the movie.


Despite facing massive protests from certain groups across the nation, Bhansali's period drama finally hit the screens on January 25 and was an instant success.


The film was initially scheduled to hit the screens on December 1, 2017. It stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati while Shahid Kapoor plays her on-screen husband Maharawal Ratan Singh.


Ranveer Singh plays Alauddin Khilji in the period drama. The film also stars Aditi Rao Hydari, in the role of Khilji's wife Mehrunisa and Jim Sarbh as Malik Kafur, a slave -general. 


The film is based on the epic poem 'Padmavat', which was written in 1540 by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi.


Notably, 'Padmaavat' is Deepika's seventh venture and third with Bhansali and actor Ranveer Singh to have crossed the Rs 100-crore mark.
