Tom Alter most notable works in films, TV and Theatre

New Delhi: The most revered American-Indian actor Tom Alter lost his battle to cancer and passed away at 67. He was diagnosed with stage four skin cancer and after giving it a tough fight breathed his last on September 29 night at his residence.

Family, friends, fans and whoever had the opportunity to know him extended their condolences through social media and hailed the charismatic personality as the fighting hero. In his illustrious career, he not only acted in films but also expanded his horizons and experimented in television, theatre, wrote books, worked as a sports journalist and what not.

Theatre

Alter started Motley Productions in 1977 along with Naseeruddin Shah and Benjamin Gilani. Samuel Beckett's play Waiting for Godot, which was staged at Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai, on 29 July 1979 was their first production. Ever since he has been performing at Prithvi Theatre. His latest was an adaptation of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer's My Grandad had an Elephant which was performed on June 7, 2011. He has also worked with the New Delhi theatre group Pierrot's Troupe. 

Alter played the famous Urdu Poet Mirza Ghalib in the play Ghalib In Delhi. He was also the lead actor in 'Once Upon A Time', a collection of five short stories presented as vignettes, directed by Sujata Soni Bali, and co-starring prominent stage actor and TV personality Sunit Tandon. The production was last staged in Mumbai on 17 June 2017.

He was quite active in the theatre circles even until the end of his time.
