Mumbai: Vidya Balan unveiled the first look of her upcoming film ‘Begum Jaan’ on Tuesday morning. The National Award winning actress, took to Twitter to share a glimpse of the character she portrays in the Srijit Mukherji film.

Vidya plays a brothel's madam in Punjab during India's Partition in 1947. In the poster, we can see her wearing an intense expression and holding a hukka in her hand. The caption on the poster sends out a clear message and drop ample hints about the film’s storyline.

‘Begum Jaan’ is apparently the Hindi adaptation of Mukherji's Bengali film ‘Rajkahini’.


The film also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Ashish Vidyarthi, Rajesh Sharma, Rajit Kapur and Ila Arun besides Guahar Khan and Pallavi Sharda.


Jointly produced by Vishesh Films and Play Entertainment, ‘Begum Jaan’ which marks Mukherji's directorial debut in Bollywood, is slated to release on April 14.
