New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) continued its grip in the passenger vehicles market in India with 8 of its models in the top ten best selling models in August.

According to data compiled by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers Association (SIAM), MSI's Alto which sold 20,919 units in August retained the title of the best selling model although it sold 23,017 units in the same month last year.

The company's compact sedan Dzire also retained the second spot with 15,766 units in the month, but sold lesser number compared to 18,718 units in August last year.

Here is the list of India's top 10 selling passenger cars in August 2016

Maruti Alto: 20,919 units

Maruti DZire: 15,766 units

Maruti WagnoR: 14,571 units

Maruti Swift: 13,027 units

Maruti Grand i10: 12,957 units

Renault Kwid: 10,719 units

Hyundai Elite i20: 9,146 units

Maruti Baleno: 8,671 units

Maruti Celerio: 8,063 units

Maruti Ciaz: 6,214 units
