Hyundai has revealed the facelift of the second generation i10 aka the Grand i10 (as it is known in India) online in Europe. The hatchback will have its public debut at the upcoming 2016 Paris Motor Show. The second generation i10 made its world debut in India in September 2013 and is due for a mid-life update, and this facelifted model is expected to be introduced early next year.
The aesthetic changes have mostly been carried out at the front. The 2017 i10 features a brand new ‘cascading’ grille. The Korean automaker has highlighted that the updated i10 is the first Hyundai to feature this new grille and it will become the new family identity for Hyundai models in the future. The new grille in the i10 is in a way similar to the one the new Elantra has, but it is less sharp and edgier compared to the Elantra’s.
The extremities of the grille get circular daytime running LEDs and it also gets projector fog lamps similar to that of the new Elantra. At the rear, the 2017 i10 features a redesigned dual-tone bumper with circular fog lamps, mirroring the new front design. The rest of the design elements are kept largely unchanged in the facelifted i10.
On the inside, the hatchback will now be available in a new shade of red for the dashboard, apart from the existing blue and black ones from the previous model. However, in India, the Grand i10 is available solely with black and beige colour scheme for the dashboard and it is likely to remain same with the upcoming update as well. Notably, the 2017 i10 also features Hyundai’s brand new 7-inch infotainment system, which supports Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. This unit might not be available in India with the Grand i10 facelift, but will eventually replace the current 7-inch unit offered with the Creta and the Elite i20.
There are no mechanical changes in the updated version of the i10 for the European market and it is expected to remain the same in India as well. The facelifted version will continue to offer a 1.2-litre petrol mill with 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmissions, along with the 1.1-litre diesel coupled to a 5-speed manual.
