Nissan's low-cost sister brand Datsun is all set to launch it's most affordable car yet, the redi-GO. The Japanese automaker will launch the hatchback on June 7 and prices will start from Rs 2.39 lakh as per the company's offical website.
Pre-launch bookings are already under way, and the hatches have already reached dealerships.
The redi-GO shares its underpinnings with the Renault Kwid, and is based on the same CMF-A (Common Module Family) platform. It also borrows the 800cc motor from the Renault that develops 54PS of power and 72Nm of torque. Mileage is identical to its sibling as well, rated at 25.17kmpl.
Datsun has chosen a quirky tall-boy design for its upcoming hatch, which is full of cuts and creases. It looks nearly identical to its concept avatar, and is available in funky colours such as bright green and a deep red. The styling is thoda hatke in our books, for a hatch in this segment. What are our thoughts on the interiors and how it drives? Do read our redi-GO review to find out.
The baby Datsun has its work cut out as it will lock horns with the bestselling car in India, the Alto 800. Maruti recently updated their number muncher to take on fresh blood such as the Kwid and the redi-GO. On paper, it has a lot to offer to the first-time car buyer. It is reasonably spacious, is easy to drive and offers really good fuel economy. Whether it goes on to repeat the success story of the Kwid remains to be seen.
