New Delhi: German carmaker Volkswagen launched most awaited sub-compact sedan Ameo in India on Saturday at a starting price of 5.14 lakh to 6.91 Lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The car costs between Rs 5.24 lakh and Rs 7.05 lakh in Delhi (ex-showroom).
As per the company, Ameo is the car 'made in India' and 'made for India', developed specifically for the Indian market.
It is the first ever sub 4-metre sedan from the stable of Volkswagen, available only in petrol variant. Ameo will be offered in three trim options - Trendline, Comfortline, and Highline.
The vehicle runs on a 1.2-litre MPI three-cylinder petrol engine mated to 5-speed manual gear box. It is the same engine that has already proved its efficiency in the Volkswagen Polo. The car will be manufactured locally at the company's Pune plant.
All variants of the compact sedan will come equipped with dual front airbags and ABS as standard as well as rear view camera with parking sensors.
The vehicle would be available across all Volkswagen showrooms starting July 2016.
Volkswagen Ameo is also come with a host of new segment-first features that include - cruise control, rain sensing vipers, anti-pinch power windows, front arm rest, and Static cornering light.
The Ameo will compete in the 25,000 units-a-month sub-4 meter car market that constitutes 8-10 per cent of the monthly volume. The car will be in competition with Maruti Suzuki's Dzire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent.
