London: Adele estranged dad, who had walked out on his daughter when she was merely three, is fearful of the fact that he will never see his grandchild.
The singer, who patched-up with her dad when she was 15, had a bitter fall out with Mark Evans after he gave an interview about their difficult relationship when she became famous.
Furious Adele, later in February, revealed that he had “f***ing blown” any chance of a reconciliation and that she would spit in his face if she ever saw him again.
Evans revealed that his mum Rose, who still shares a close bond with the crooner, told him of the singer’s pregnancy.
“My first reaction was a surge of happiness for her. But as we chatted about how Adele had told her in person, it dawned on me that my daughter hadn’t wanted to tell me herself,” a leading daily has quoted him as saying.
“My happiness for her turned to gloom because I realised I really was out of the picture as far as she is concerned.
“I want more than anything to be part of her life again and to be a big part in my little grandson or granddaughter’s life. I’m having to face up to the fact that I may never get to know my grandchildren and it is breaking my heart,” he said.
The 50-year-old, who has battled alcoholism since splitting from Adele’s mum Penny, has admitted that he has been a “rotten father” to the six-time Grammy winner and is now living with the consequences of falling out with her.
“I was a rotten father to her and I guess now I’m paying the price,” he said.
“I’ve tried phoning her and I’ve tried to see her but she doesn’t want to know,” he said.
“It would be so sad if the next time we meet is at my dear old mum’s funeral.”
“It breaks my heart to think I might not see her in the years ahead or hold my little grandchild in my arms,” he added.
